What You’ll Learn

Expect to learn what it takes to get your writing published professionally.  All workshops are designed to help the writer take his or her work to completion. They are appropriate for both beginning and advanced writers. Full manuscripts of any length, or new projects may be brought to the workshops. Indeed, the writer need not decide in advance what he or she wants to work on for the duration of the workshop.

Each workshop focuses on the principles of craft that separate the “wanna-be” writer from the professional writer: things that are seldom taught in other venues. From organization to self-editing, writers will learn what it takes to make their writing the best it can be. The instructor’s emphasis is to help each writer achieve a level appropriate for professional publication in any, or several, of the prose genres: fiction, nonfiction, literary or creative nonfiction, memoir, biography, essay.

Tuition for eight-session workshops, Mondays and Fridays, 9am to noon,  three hours each session, is US $350 or peso equivalent. Tuition for *six session workshops (January), Mondays and Fridays, 9am to noon, three hours each session, is US $262.50 or peso equivalent.

Reservations for workshops are accomplished only with full advance payment. A maximum of six writers is accepted in each workshop, unless otherwise determined by the instructor. As these workshops are popular, early enrollment is suggested. For more information, contact Eva Hunter at writingcoach.editor@gmail.com. A SKYPE appointment may also be set up.

Personal consultations and email coaching are also available. Eva Hunter works with a limited number of writers on a personal consultation level, both in-person and through email. In both instances,  she and the client set up what works best–email submissions and editing, phone consultations, in-person consultations, and often a combination of all three. The charge is US $75.00 per hour, although long-term projects may be  charged on a different scale, at the instructor’s discretion.

Manuscript review is available at a cost of US $75.00 per 10,000 words. Word length for most full-size books is from 80,000 to 110,000 words.

Line-editing of completed manuscripts is available. Please contact Eva Hunter at evamhunter@gmail.com

  1. It’s great you list your classes clear into next year. If I’m interested in the February class, how soon should I register?

    • Thanks for you question, David. As I have many continuing students who come to San Miguel in the winter, it’s a good idea to reserve you space in any particular workshop as soon as possible.

  2. Dear Eva, Having heard readings from your students, I would like to sign up for the workshop beginning January 28. Please let me know when and where.
    Thank you so much!

  3. Hi Eva,
I have the same question as David. Is there an online form to fill-out? I would like to register for the wokshop that starts on February 4, 2011.
    Gracias,
    Eric

  4. I’m just beginning writing. I’m wondering if you have classes that can be taken over the computer as I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. I would appreciate any info you can extend to me.

    Thank you for your time.
    Nancy

    • Nancy,
Yes, I work with writers via internet as much as I do in person. Often this process includes using low-cost telephone alternatives such as skype to discuss one’s work. Each writer and each writer’s needs are different. Write to me at writingcoach.editor@gmail.com and I can address your particular questions.

      Best,
      Eva

  5. Joanne,
I will indeed be planning shorter workshops for this winter. When will you be in San Miguel, and what are your particular interests in writing?
